The batteries lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4) have revolutionized energy storage. Here are the technical and economic reasons why this chemistry is the standard for any new system.

Why LiFePO4 and not other chemistry?

Compared to lead-acid, NMC or LCO, LiFePO4 offers the best compromise:

  • Thermal safety: they don't light up in a short circuit (vs NMC which can explode)
  • Durability: 6,000+ cycles at 80% DoD (vs 1,200 for lead-acid)
  • Efficiency: 95-98% charge (vs 80-85% lead-acid)
  • Energy density: 90-160 Wh/kg (vs 30-40 Wh/kg lead-acid)
  • Auto-download: 2-3% monthly (vs 5-15% lead-acid)

How it works internally

LiFePO4 cathode + graphite anode + Li-PF6 liquid electrolyte. Upon discharge, Li⁺ ions migrate through the separator from the anode to the cathode. The process is reversible with minimal loss, which explains the long lifetime.

Key figures for investment

  • Cost per kWh: 250-400 € (în 2026)
  • Cost per cycle: ~0.05 €/kWh (vs 0.30 €/kWh lead-acid)
  • Depreciation: 4-6 years for houses with 15+ kWh/day consumption
  • Useful life span: 15-20 years with daily use

Optimal capacity for the house

Consumption/dayBattery recommendation
10 kWh5-7 kWh LiFePO4
15 kWh10 kWh LiFePO4
20-25 kWh15 kWh LiFePO4
30+ kWh2× 15 kWh in parallel

BMS (Battery Management System) — essential

Any modern LiFePO4 battery comes with an integrated BMS that:

  • Monitors the voltage of each cell (4 cells for 12.8V, 16 for 51.2V)
  • Protects against under/over voltage
  • Limits the charge/discharge current
  • It communicates with the inverter via CAN bus or RS485

Recommended brands 2026

  • EcoSolaris — grade A cells, BMS Daly, top price-performance ratio
  • Pylontech — premium, native Victron integration
  • BYD — high-voltage solutions, maximum efficiency
  • Victron — for traditional 12-48V systems

All available at EcoSolaris with warranty. See the range of LiFePO4 batteries.

I made the green house last year, very useful for those who want to know

    1. The EcoSolaris team says:

For an average house with a consumption of 15-20 kWh/day, we recommend a 5-6 kW single-phase inverter. The three-phase becomes useful only above 10 kW.

    2. The EcoSolaris team says:

Hello! For a 5kW system with a 10kWh battery, the total investment is around 7000-9000 EUR turnkey. We can make a detailed offer.

How much does a complete system cost as you say here? Do you have an online computer?
