What is an On-Grid Inverter?

Un On-Grid inverter is an electronic device used in photovoltaic systems connected to the electrical network (grid). Its main role is to convert the direct current (DC) produced by the photovoltaic panels into alternating current (AC), compatible with the electrical grid and usable for supplying domestic or industrial consumers.

On-Grid inverters also synchronize the energy produced with the voltage and frequency of the electricity grid to allow the delivery of surplus energy to the grid.

The advantages of an On-Grid inverter

  1. Direct integration with the power grid
    • The energy produced by the panels is used in real time and the surplus is injected into the grid. Users can benefit from type systems net metering or other compensation schemes, reducing energy bills.
  2. Lower costs compared to battery systems
    • It does not require batteries to store energy, which lowers initial and maintenance costs. It is an effective solution for networked areas.
  3. High efficiency
    • On-Grid inverters are optimized to maximize the conversion of the energy produced, reducing losses and increasing system efficiency.
  4. Reliability and minimal maintenance
    • Without complex components like batteries, On-Grid inverters are simpler and require less long-term maintenance.
  5. Real-time monitoring
    • Most On-Grid inverters are equipped with monitoring functions, allowing users to see energy production and consumption through apps or online platforms.
  6. Ecological and sustainable solution
    • By using solar energy and injecting the surplus into the grid, it helps reduce the carbon footprint and promote renewable energy.

On-Grid Inverter Limits

  • Does not work during power outages: For safety reasons, On-Grid inverters automatically shut down if the power grid goes down, even if the panels are producing power.
  • Network dependency: These inverters are only ideal for locations with constant access to the power grid.

The On-Grid Inverter is an essential component for grid-connected PV systems, offering efficiency, affordability and easy integration into existing infrastructure.
